Yea, I'm sure there is some benefit that makes traffic flow better, but it's not immediately apparent just by looking at the picture. Someone want to explain why this is better?

I think from looking it makes the interstate exits go to the airport easier / better / faster (and maybe take up less site area) but just a guess

There are fewer conflict points (areas where one driving motion would result in a crash with another driving motion), and the crossing distance for left turns is significantly lessened so you can get more people turning left in a shorter amount of time. So less traffic backup waiting to turn. Plenty of other things too.
