We played in a tourney in Zachary this passed weekend, a man and his trashy wife were chasing a couple of college kid umpires into the parking lot ?? ......all our kids stopped to watch the show. It definitely makes you sit back and ask yourself why the hell we spend our weekends around this garbage

I find it funny. I umpired some USSSA. It’s good money, especially when it was over the summer during my college years. I had the pleasure of umpiring behind the plate for a ‘world series’ game. It ended with 2 bang-bang calls at the plate. Back-to-back plays at home...crazy.

I called the runner out at home both times. I felt confident in the calls. The coaches of the losing team were well-known inthe community. They signed the scorecards with no problem. They were cordial.

I’m eating lunch after the game when a parent comes up. In front of his wife and kids, he starts ridiculing me. I just kept eating, as I was more surprised than anything. I defended myself without making a big issue of it, and he walked off frustrated.

For the life of me, I can’t understand why someone would get that bent out of shape over youth sports. I was embarassed for his wife and kids.

I think back to my time as a little leaguer. My relatively small town had 6 teams in the league. We'd play 1-2 games a week for about 6 weeks with a mid-season weekend tournament and the playoffs at the end of the year. My dad never lost his shite about any of the games. In fact, he was (quietly) very happy if my team went 0-2 in the tournaments because it meant he could avoid sitting in 100 degree heat all weekend and not fricking up the apparent main focus of his weekends, which was cutting the grass.

My son is playing Rec (PONY) all Stars right now. Coach pitch. The amount of bull shite we have to go through to prove that we aren’t cheating is astounding. And the reason we have to do it has nothing to do with the kids. Grown ups will ruin anything man.
