The 2021 “protection” is better than what we thought

2021 pick goes to NOLA if top 8, L.A. if 9-30
Goes to 2022 if it’s outside the top 8
2024 has a pick deferment that we can elect to use to defer the pick to 2025.

So we lose an extra swap if we compare this from the earlier report

I have no idea what any of that really means. But it sounds like LAL is basically basically our bitch when the draft rolls around for the better part of a decade

It’s very simple and exactly what it says.
In 2021 if the pick is in the top 8 we get it. If not we get their 2022 pick.
In 2024 we can elect to either take their pick or take it in 2025. Simple.
But genius. I’ve literally never seen either.

Y’all. This is a really good trade. AD forced his way to the Lakers. The fact that we got anything of value is good. But now we control the Lakers picks from 2021-2024. I love it.

WTF are the lakers doing. They could have waited a single season.

Not to be negative and it might be because the Pels haven’t had a first round pick in ages...but how often do mid to late first round draft picks make a big impact on a team?

Rarely. But we have enough for rarely to hit at this point. Also, and this is key -- the Lakers front office may be in over their head. Which means those picks may not be as bad as most think they'll be.

You have no idea what any of those picks will be next year, let alone in 6 years.
The Lakers are a shitty organization. I put nothing last them.

And also high school kids will be able to be drafted starting 2021 which will enrich the draft pool for these future lakers picks we’ll own

It’s not just the picks themselves. It is the ability to turn them into other assets.
A late first tends to be a draft and stash Euro too, IIRC, so that kind of thing is right up Langdon’s alley.

There are kids in 6th grade that will just become draft eligible when our draft picks run out

It would be pretty damn funny if LeBron fell apart and it got us a high first we could use on his son Bronny.

It sounds better than it will be. The Lakers will be very good for the next few years certainly so that just means we get nothing in 2021 and the 2022 pick will be a late one.

This assumes that the Lakers put together a good supporting roster for them and that LeBron, AD, and the third star stay healthy.
Both of those are questionable assumptions given what we saw out of the Laker front office and medical staff last season.

Even better for us. Silver said, a week or so ago, the first year that can happen is 2022.

Lebron won’t even be in the league in 2022. Maybe not in 2021.
You expect Davis to carry a team or Jeannie Buss to put a consistent product around him?
I don’t.

Please let them max out Jimmy Butler.

Exactly. He was leaving next year anyway. He could have ridden the pine with some bullshite injury and we would not have gotten a ham sandwich.
This is an amazing haul. Franchise-changing trade for us - and only in an advantageous manner.
Future is bright for the Pels
