Maybe not out Basset got attacked and the only thing that changed was for a couple of months she would let our other dogs get out into the yard at night before she would go down the steps. Now she is just the way she was loving to all things 2 or 4 legged, well except rabbits, she will bark her head off (it is the only time she barks) and chase rabbits.

The attack was really bizarre. I let me three dogs out in the back yard to pee before bed one night. I don't turn the lights on when I do. They were all three in the yard and my Basset always goes to a back corner to pee. I was standing on the porch looking out waiting for them to finish and I saw something jump our 3.5' fence on the run, I assumed it was a deer and called my two Ridgebacks because I know they will ride a deer down without a thought. As they started up the steps my Basset let out a yelp and my other dogs turned and sprinted to the back corner and all hell broke loose. I ran and grabbed my Basset and carried her back in the house. I felt bad I didn't call my other dogs off but I had no idea what was going on. I went back out turning on the lights and calling my dogs off and when I got them inside I went back out to find a neighbor's Great Dane. It had to be put to sleep. It was the oddest thing since they had all played together numerous times and it never showed any pet aggression. The Dane just snapped that night. I still feel horrible about what I let my dogs do, especially since the dog was our neighbor's little girl's best friend and she has several disabilities. I felt bad enough that I wouldn't let my neighbors pay any of my dog's vet bills.
