Never cussed, stopped drinking before I was born.

On his deathbed (from cancer) he and the opioids told me about his horrible experiences in 1945 on Okinawa.

He said he’d never told anyone but wanted one of his kids to know and he felt like I was the only one who could handle it.

I think it was kinda a deathbed mea culpa for the real and imagined issues he’d had with all of us kids.

I took his trust in sharing that with me as a compliment.

My great uncle fought on Okinawa. Perhaps he knew your pops. My dad wrote a short story about him. I'd link it but it would have my real name in it.
