One of the Greatest Generation's best. Incredible work ethic. Grew up "dirt poor" in Alabama during the Great Depression - first in his family to ever attend college.
Entered the military the day he graduated from the U. of Alabama. Flew 33 missions as B-17 pilot in WWII - most of them at a time when the life expectancy of a B-17 crew was 2-3 missions. He flew his last mission on the day Germany surrendered.
Wish he was still here. Wish my grandkids could have known him.
