Report that Celtics may not "be willing to offer top package."

quote:

Two years ago, the Boston Celtics took a risk by trading for Kyrie Irving, knowing he could bolt in free agency after a pair of seasons. Will they be wiling to take an even bigger risk with Anthony Davis, with the knowledge he’s likely to just stay one?

Davis’ agent, Rich Paul, has made every indication that the six-time All-Star would only stay in Boston for one year, and if he followed through on that promise, it could quickly turn the Celtics from one of the most promising teams in the league to one nearly completely devoid of talent.

According to the Boston Globe’s Adam Himmelsbach, the Celtics are hesitant to make their best offer possible because of that uncertainty. It is widely known that the Celtics have the shiniest collection of assets for a potential Davis deal, but there are questions about how far they would open their treasure chest. One league source said the uncertainty surrounding Davis’s long-term future in Boston has thus far limited the Celtics’ willingness to overwhelm New Orleans with an offer.

And a lot of those shiney assets are about to expire. Two of their extra draft picks are this year, leaving only the Memphis pick along with their own in future years. Browns up for a big extension next year. If Tatum has another ho-hum year then the shine will be off of him as a potential franchise player. So unless they think Tatum/Brown/Smart and cap space to attract another top FA (unless Hayward returns to form) if enough to compete for a title then the time to strike for them is now IMO.

If this BS rich Paul pulls ends up costing us Tatum, no way in hell im trading AD to the Lakers just on principle. I start looking at knicks or clipper deals. It will screw over LeBron making them punt another year or possibly make another power team in the east for Boston to compete with....
