They "know" this won't happen. The smart ones that understand what socialism seek to achieve their elitism through high taxation, and can refute they are pushing socialism, so it won't be catastrophic like conservatives think it will.

They are motivated to seek power for poor and unprivileged people. They also naively think they will be able to give them a better life by giving them money without understanding why those same people are poor. In a nutshell they are power seeking elitists that think they can fix everybody's problems with money.
