Yes, I also know that he is a streaky hitter in the midst of a postseason long slump

Yes. I also watched the Georgia regional and I was screaming at the tv to walk Mendoza. Kid on deck was a freshman that feasted on midweek games and had a considerably lower average than Mendoza in both the post season and in ACC play.

Not to mention he was going through a slump.

Throwing to their best hitter and not setting up a force was a huge mistake. Idk if it cost us the game but it was a dumbass move.

Statistically you put the top percentage batter on base every time with two outs in extra innings because the run is meaningless at first and you now create an out at any base (except home) situation. You put him on in every calculation.

Unfortunately for your argument, stats dont always tell the whole story

Do you? He was batting .250 in the post-season. Mendoza was batting over .400. In THAT situation you walk Mendoza 100 out of 100 times in extra innings with 1st base open.

Awful. I’m sure you regularly watch FSU and believe that number is significant enough to justify that the 3 whole hitter, who is pitched to completely differently than the freshman batting behind him, is the better option to
pitch to. The guy picked in the 3rd round that leads all offensive categories except second in batting average. He’s the run producer. You don’t give him the opportunity to drive in the run.

Look, we know the result. Anyone who believes we should have pitched to him is wrong because we saw that result and it was the wrong decision or at least a decision that lost us the game.
