Wednesday in July? I'm hoping a Monday and Tuesday in July will have reasonable crowds.
I went in the late 1990s and didn't notice a safety issue.
I might take an earlier poster's advice and go to that Holiday Inn he posted in his link.

Yes, it was the last week of July when we went. There were a few rides we didn't even have to wait in line for.
