Seems like, at least in my neck of the woods, the two biggest growth industries are healthcare and personal injury attorneys. There are new urgent care and emergency hospitals going up all over the place, and PI attorney ads everywhere you look.

Meanwhile, both are funded in whole or in part by a byzantine, soulless insurance industry.

It is really sad, and actually pathetic, that we have gone from a nation that took pride in being strong-willed and independent; who worked hard, built things, and prospered beyond anything believed possible, to a nation that goes to urgent care in the face of the slightest injury, turns around and sues somebody to get an unearned settlement check from an insurance company.

It's an embarrassment and a disgrace. Our entire system as a nation is falling apart.

Would you rather people go to an overcrowded ER when then need to see a medical professional?

Urgent care serves a purpose.

That's what an urgent care is for...for minor illnesses and injuries.

I’m a full time PA in urgent care. We have big posters stating we do not prescribe narcotics unless absolutely necessary and do not keep any in house any longer. It has deterred a lot of the pain pill seekers.

Urgent care does serve a great purpose for minor illness and injury. I’ve worked ER also and those places are a nightmare for crap off the street and worthless visits.

I don’t even have a primary care doctor anymore. I just go to urgent care. Pricier but you get in and out quicker

You still should have a primary care doctor. Because they will be the one to get a bigger picture of your health. They can compare labs from one annual visit to the next one.

Also....if you need any kind of daily maintenance meds(meds for high blood pressure, diabetes, etc)...you won’t get that from an urgent care.

I’ve been to urgent care once in the last decade, a couple of years ago. I had been sick for a week and just couldn’t kick it and couldn’t function. I was diagnosed with a sinus infection so acute that they took a chest X-ray to make sure I didn’t have pneumonia. Nuked it from orbit with antibiotics and it still took several days to start improving.

So should I have gone to the ER or just rubbed dirt on it, slapdick?

My friend is a doctor and he calls them “urgent gayers” because that’s what people that use them are

Your friend the doctor sounds like a lot of fun. Most docs don’t truly respect mid level providers and shat on them whenever they can. I know plenty of docs I wouldn’t let treat my dog but God forbid you hurt their ego.
