A great question.
On net, I think it is a positive. It might demotivate his supporters a little (less like to vote, to donate, to volunteer) but if they vote it will be for him. And now he gets to re-posture himself as a conservative democrat.
Never mind his fiscal record, he's pro-life! Pay no attention to those tax increases behind the curtain!
