Anyone have any details?

Heard a guy was thrown from a bass boat and they are dragging for him. From a guy that was at the sand bar

Wear your PFD and use the kill switch.

It’s time for a little regulation on these boats on rivers. I had a 40 foot yacht throw a 5 foot wake at me while fishing on natalbany once. 25 foot and over stay in manchac or the lakes.

Baw, how will the sluts at the Prop Stop get their cocaine?

Just curious, is this relevant to this accident?

The call for additional regulation after a tragic event is an over reaction.
If the Boater wasn't wearing a PFD while underway, why subject the rest of the Boater community with unrelated regulations?
Prayers on behalf of the boater's family. Tragic day for them.

Disagree with your second point. If boats collide at high speed the pfd just makes your corpse easier to find, in most cases.
I am not familiar with this particular spot so I can't say what new regulations might be appropriate but having a conversation about it, among people familiar with the water, isn't knee-jerky.

" was a passenger in a 19-foot fiberglass boat when he and the driver of the boat went over a wave. XXXX was ejected into the water without wearing a personal flotation device."
With the amount of traffic in that area someone would have been able to locate him quickly and possibly save his life had he been wearing a PFD.

Yeah because if a wake is big enough to eject someone from a 19 foot bass boat then that is an obnoxiously large wake. Go drive on the tickfaw at 3 pm on a Saturday and get back to me. It makes the ships in Venice look like bath tub waves

Probably hauling arse. Check out the prop blow out videos on YouTube on bass boats. Sounds like that is what got the driver. He should have slowed and trimmed down well before hitting the wake.
But I do agree, I stopped going out there, way to many morons with more money than sense throwing huge wakes all over.

Hmm... so a wake "big enough" to throw someone from a big ole 19' bass boat, must have been an "obnoxiously large wake"
irrelevant of how fast the bass boat was going, nor the angle he hit the wake, nor how the guy was sitting in the boat.
Just seems like a big conclusion.
That said, I don't doubt there are big wakes on the Tickfaw. Those big boats often called ships in the MS River throw some pretty big wakes too, but somehow much smaller boats manage to safely negotiate them.
Outlawing boats for their wake size would make no more sense than outlawing boats for being too small to negotiate a big wake.
Big boats should have the courtesy to slow down for much smaller boats.

I grew up fishing in Hopedale, Delacroix, Reggio, Bayou Bienvenue and Canaveron. Moved to Ponchatoula after Katrina for a few years. Spent some time fishing around the Tickfaw River system. The people out there aren't too concerned with boat safety. Totally different world being on the boat in that area compared to the places I grew up fishing around "Da Parish." I honestly can't believe there isn't 10 boating accidents in that area per year.

The Tickfaw river has a buoy near the mouth marking the shallow side of the river. It effectively narrows that section to maybe 30 or 40 yards wide. That spot can get hairy when it's busy...other than that you are usually able to give each other plenty of room. I'm not sure where this accident happened but that narrow section could sure use a dredging to widen it and solve that problem.
Now, I wouldn't want to be fishing the edges of the river on a busy weekend. Most are not going to slow down when passing a fishing boat that's 100 yards away. If every boat did that it would take 2 hours to get to the lake.
The Tickfaw has a strong LDWF presence on the weekends. I get stopped and checked almost every time on the way back in at the bridge on Hwy 22. Just a heads up...watch your drinking...I've seen them take people off boats and jet skis more than once.

Sunday morning I launched my boat at cypress bend and right next me was bullet with a hopped up 300. He and his wife idle out and then he hammers down. No telling how fast he was rolling with no life jacket and I assume no kill switch.

100% true
It's been years since I've been out there but they were always there.

Do they require boaters to wear pfds if over 18 down there?
