I do believe that
and I do respect them for stepping forward to slay the dragon when it was just as reasonable to build another way and wait GSW out. trading for Paul (they gave up real assets that are even more valuable now) and signing him to that deal was an all in move

It may have been a bad all-in move in hindsight. The goal was a secondary ball handler to pair with Harden so he could rest and not have to do so much

Essentially swap CP3 out for:
Patrick Beverley - injury prone defensive guard
Montrezl Harrell - took time to develop
Lou Williams - 6th man

but now they would have financially been able to afford keeping Ariza. Combine that with Harden's emergence the last 2 years, I like their chances honestly.

Other players of similar caliber have recently been "had" for less
