Yes, which is why it is such a blessing for him to finally be relieved of that duty. The Hand of the King explicitly told him that he no longer had any more duty to uphold. Jon finally got what he wanted... the end of duty. That's what makes his ending so fitting and a just reward. Being king would have meant more duty. Now, he has none.
