But that points out the stupidity of the alternative argument. A dog's life is 1/7th the lenthg of a human's - everything he does is scaled down to reflect that
Yes.

A dog experiences ~7 dog years in a 365 day span.

Hey man, I was agreeing with you.

I used the same basis (pages). Think pages = human years.

I've had to do a couple double takes in this thread. A 9 page thread for a dog is 63 human pages.

It’s bothering me that you think your explanation of this is somehow above our heads.

And it's bothering me that you and many others seem to think it's ok to spout nonsense and say it's perfectly fine. Are you a supporter of ebonics?

So if a human is 7 years old a dog of the same age would be 7/7 or 1?

No. The dog would also be 7 years old.

They are both 7 Earth years old.

We happen to age ourselves in Earth years.

However, not all creatures agree the same, so we attempt to convert.

For example, many mayflies only live 24 hours, with no chance at making it an Earth year.

A dog's year equals 1/7 an Earth year/human year.

It's still x dog year's old.

It's 7x that in human years.

Slackster is right.

OK Kork. You and me.

I get what you are saying. I really do. I even like your comparisons with A and B. And then B to C, and then D to B...forgetting A. We're on the same wavelength for the math and proof side.

Realize there's an inconsistency with pulling in apps and websites on what the conversion is. Some translate it as one way, and some translate it as another.

Please know that the whole point to aging a dog from human/Earth years to "dog years" is to make their lifespan seem as drawn out as ours because we/humans love them.

So, explain how your interpretation does that.

A dog's year equals 1/7 an Earth year/human year.
Correct.

So 1 dog year = 1/7 of a human year.
And 1 dog beer = 1/7 of a human beer.

frick me, I didn't see that comment.

No, one year, to a dog, is like 7 years to a human. Ergo, one dog year is to 7 human years like one dog beer is to 7 human beers.

You didn't ask me, but try this on for size.

A dog year for a dog is however old a dog is in revolutions around the sun. You'd never ask how old a human was in human years, just like you'd never ask how old a dog is in dog years. Dog years as either x/7 or 7x only make sense being used to measure the age of non-dogs. A dog is always as old in "dog years" as he's had completed orbits around the sun.

As such, we could measure a human in dog years. If a human has made 14 orbits around the sun - he's 14 years old - he's completed approximately 2/11ths of his life. 2/11ths of a dog's life is 2 orbits around the sun, so we'd say that human is 14 years old, or 2 in dog years.

In the movie Sandlot, the dog (Beast) lived to 199 dog years.

How many human years is that?

199 dog years for a dog is 199 years. He was the equivalent of a 1393 year old human.

I've seen them too, I just ignore them because they don't help my point. I'd say it's probably 2 or 3 to 1 in websites that frame it my way vs your way.
