Why would AD need leverage? Either he gets a Supermax from the Pelicans (which they are obviously willing to give him), he does a one-year extension, or he says 'no thanks.'
AD's leverage is the fact that he's AD -- an insanely talented player.

AD’s problem with leverage is that where he wants to go is a place which doesn’t have the assets to get him.
He seems dead set on the Lakers, who are an unbelievable shitshow right now and whose young players are of questionable quality and health.
A lot of the games being played are AD trying to force his way to LA for pennies on the dollar and us either keeping him or sending him elsewhere for at least a season.
What annoys me about all this is that he pretends it is about winning yet he wants to go to bad teams in huge markets. I’d respect him more if he wasn’t such a mealy mouthed bitch about it.

I mean, maybe he thinks that the team should have a famous executive chef preparing meals at the team facility. Maybe he thinks that there should be a better perks when the team travels. Maybe Rich Paul wants Griffin to pull some strings and somehow help out another Klutch client in some way. Maybe AD wants a guarantee that he won't have to play the 5, or he wants Griffin to get rid of some player or assistant coach that he hates.
I have no clue what things that AD/Rich Paul would want from Griffin/Gayle -- those were just random thoughts right now -- but I feel sure that, if AD actually is considering staying, there are some things that they would want.
