I've never worked at one, but I know several that have taught at them (in LA) and I know the CFO of one.

Seems like it's always last minute, gotta see how many kids project to sign up, what their budget is going to be like, etc.

Being that this is the end of your first semester, I think you could easily pull off going and talking to your dept chair / dean and just asking them when you can expect an update... that you are new to this and just want to make sure you haven't missed anything.
