More and more sites are either limiting consumer commentary (NYT heavily moderates theirs now, for instance) or eliminating it altogether. It's a pity. I always enjoyed the comments as much as the articles. Most of it was a bunch of tomfoolery, but goddamn was it funny. And we got the occasional insight.

I think it was the "marketing" scams that ruined everything. I enjoyed all the comments on both sides, but every other post became "I made x amount of $, Ask me how"
