This. Those clubs couldn't compete against a government-like organization who doesn't care how much money they lose.
This killed Alexandria G&CC. Pretty sure the big secret at Oakwing is, the management company is millions behind in their contract payments and the England Authority is keeping that quiet.

I was a member at Fairwood back in the 90’s....decent course, good members, had to drive it straight. My mom would drop me off in the morning and I’d play or hit range balls all day until 4 or 5. I think I went from shooting in the low 100’s to the 70’s in one summer. I would kill for a similar setup here in Houston for my kids, but that’s probably not gonna happen unless I become an OT baller.
