Right.

Maybe Trump is hiding shady crap, maybe not, but it won't be found in his submitted tax returns.

And if he was hiding stuff, again like you said, there is a government agency that finds out and charges people.

They won't admit it, but deep down, I think they don't like the fact that the tax code allows Trump to claim the deductions he legally gets to claim.

And as someone who works with financial and tax issues, to some extent, I can understand that. Real estate is very tax-favored.

But instead of trying to accuse Trump of doing something illegal/unethical, why don't they just come out and say they want to change tax laws?

I think it's because they don't actually understand the tax laws. They just say "muh it's unfair". Perhaps, but until you can state WHAT PART is unfair, it's going to be tough sledding.

Yup.

Their ENTIRE reason for wanting his returns is to bitch about what they know he did perfectly legally and portray it as somehow unethical.

Basically, they KNOW what would reside in ANYONE'S tax returns with a similar type of entity. They're not "looking" for anything. They already know what they'll find and they just want to be able to demagogue it.

Well, I mean, Democrats run every day on the idea that following tax law IS unethical. Like, somehow, if you're in Trump's shoes, you shouldn't take advantage of whatever current tax law is.

Which, of course, they do NOT apply to themselves at all
