The thing is, is that we are in a completely different situation. Florida, by most people and not including many polls, was expected to have a down year. A lot of excellent players were drafted, far more than LSU. Two first round pitchers. They replaced their entire rotation with either weekday starters or bullpen arms. They’re expected to do so much better in the upcoming seasons and there’s a lot of reason to believe that it will happen.
Mainieri has literally the opposite situation. A combination of the number one recruiting class as well as almost all of his players returning. Sure, pitching injuries have done a number on the team, but we should not even be close to this bad. Our hitters have also done so little compared to prior seasons. Daniel Cabrera flashed so much talent to hit any ball to any part of the field but we had no one to develop him, so he’s stuck in the .290s, which by no stretch of the imagination is bad, but he should be hitting at least .320 at this point. The hitters have not been clutch at any point and the defense has been lackluster to say the least, especially the last few games.
A trusted insider on 247 even said that he’d talked to players’ parents, and that to say he lost the team would be an understatement. He’s been bashing players even more lately, never taking accountability. Players notice that, recruits notice it. Mainieri raised this program but if he continues to put no effort into any hire or development, he will put it into the ground. The game has simply passed him up.

Not saying this isn’t true but do you have a link?

Preseason polls obviously don’t mean much (see: LSU) but I’m pretty sure they were ranked top 5 top 10
