There's a dwarf magnolia variety that would work.

Looked that up, solid choice. Do you know how much the roots spread out?

May be referring to Little Gem Magnolia, semi-tall dwarf columnar small tree. I have one planted on the driveway side of my house, 5-6 feet from driveway, about 8 feet from house foundation. It does not have have an aggressive root system. Great tree. In Louisiana, it is a LSU AgCenter designated Super Plant. Evergreen.

Lately, I’ve seen them being planted with regularity on house corner foundations in our area. They look great in that role.

OP - good plant to consider if you are looking for something different, particularly if you’d like a narrow, columnar small evergreen tree.
