I remember that when Top Gun was out in theaters in 1986, the US Navy set up recruiting booths in the lobbies of movie theaters.. their recruitment numbers went up something like 200 or 300%; sounds like it worked out pretty well for your friend, but i’m guessing there were lots of dudes who regretted signing up for the military based on a movie.. I mean, how fricking gullible can you get? That’s like watching LA Law or The Firm and saying ‘Gee, being a lawyer looks like fun!” .. then you get into and realize that going to work everyday (usually) is like doing homework for the rest of your life.
