So happy Hess accepts bullpen move.

I have heard that the only reason he stayed is that he was promised to be given a starting position. It was excruciating seeing him as a starter, but if he is happy in bullpen, I am ecstatic. That gives us a solid starting rotation and even more solid bullpen. Now if we can just get SOME prosecution out of the bottom third of our lineup, we can show why we were pre-season #1.

I disagree as well, but CPM was doing what he had to to keep Hess and family happy. Hence the quote at the beginning of the year saying that he was the Friday man. I think Hess finally realized his lack of potential as a starter.

I mean we've had some injuries, but I wouldn't go so far as to say it's been criminal.

Seems some have wanted PM prosecuted and executed

I heard that as well form Jimmy and Chuck one afternoon, but didn't he have to come back? He's a Jr. this year.

He was 21 prior to June 1, 2018 so he could have left. Same deal as Zack Watson and Jake Slaughter.
Zach Hess wants to be in the bullpen. He did not threaten CPM with leaving if he wasn't a starter.

Everyone liked Hess as a closer.
You have to try to parlay 1-2 innings to 6-7. It almost worked.

Finally. This will give some stability to the pitching staff and will more than likely roll over into the batting aspect..
3 starters hopefully going through the 5th..then you have Peterson and Hess for 8 & 9..just need 6 outs from the rest of the staff for 6th & 7th inning..
This should’ve been done from the get-go but like posters above said about him coming back and being promised a weekend starter position..I get it but he’ll make his money in the pro’s by being able to get 3 outs..

Hess being a starter, I have to assume, was based on the lack of other options until the 3 freshman came of age. As that happened with each one, they were injured, furthering the need for Hess to stay in a starting role. Even now, I’m kinda torn because I don’t think anyone believes putting Hilliard in the Friday night role makes us any better. Hopefully, he only makes 1 start and we finally get what was always supposed to be...some talented freshman and a steady Walker claiming a hold on the rotation and Hess coming in to shut mofos down

I get it and I’m glad Hess is back in the pen, but our starting pitching depth right now is Nil. All 3 of our starters at this point have been hurt this season or in the past.
We don’t just have a rock steady rotation right now. I’d call it very questionable right now.

My supposition is that Mainieri's trying to use this move to motivate the starting pitchers and slingshot the team forward. I agree that it's definitely a huge gamble.
If our starters shite the bed this weekend, that rubber band is going to snap back hard.

Sorry but Hess was told and the PR move is he is fine with it. Hess did not choose.

Then I hope he goes out there with the intent to prove he should be in the rotation.
