I'd say the advent of birth control and abortion might have more to do with making the "shaming no longer exist" than does paternity testing.
Paternity testing of a birthed child can prevent a certain male from being a cuckold, but it still does not relieve the female or her community (family for the most part) from the "burdens" of that child. A male can spread his seed far without having that burden if he doesn't want it or isn't forced into doing it, in theory. The cost of producing an egg is expensive, with a limited resource per female, with a "best used by date," where as a man could father children well into his dotage as long as he can get it up.
Birth control/abortion has "leveled" the sexual playing field for women, allowing them the option to go from bed to bed like men can do.
