Why doesn’t Louisiana have a NASCAR track?

Went to my first race this past weekend at Talladega. I’m not really a NASCAR fan, but I had possibly the most fun ever at any event at the race. It was wild, especially on the infield.

Could LA not support a race?

Weren’t they going to build one outside of Stennis? It was around the time Benson was moving the Saints out of the Dome the first time.

While in MS NOLA folks would’ve claimed it

Back in the '90s, when NASCAR was exploding, poeple were spreading rumors that one would be built in Livingston Parish. Then, the rumor changed to a world class horse race track. Then it changed to a Disney World like park.

Don't worry though, pretty sure LA will have one soon. NASCAR'S popularity is fading. Attendance is way down. That's right about the time that LA usually gets involved.

Couldn't say for sure but I'd imagine our wonderful politicians probably played a part.

I know it won't quite compare to Talladega, but a Saturday night at the dirt track in Zachary is a damn fun way to spend $12 if you need to whet your whistle

Depends? Are you willing to waste hundreds of millions in government resources to build 3 or 4 lanes of interstate going to and from the site that is used twice a year?

Because Louisiana is not made up of a bunch hillbillies like AL, GA, North Florida, and NC.

Louisiana loves football more than the aforementioned states, and La is intelligent enough to understand baseball.

You know NASCAR isn't the only racing series in America, right?

Perhaps not. But the next upcoming event for the waste of resources known as Talladega is in October. Couple with the Redneck Mecca that occured Sunday, that is twice a year. But we really need a 4 lane interstate going there when Shelby County is still two lanes.

Because nascar is terrible to watch and has no appeal. Literally one of the worst things displayed on tv, I’d rather watch lifetime or the 2 gay guys on pickers.

Lol what? Sub hillbillies for swamp trash or rednecks and stop completely ignoring where Louisiana lies on the list of quality of education, baw.

They had an indycar race in New Orleans a few years ago, rain made for a poor turnout and they haven't been back since.

Ok, well there was over a hundred thousand in Talladega this weekend. I’m sure NASCAR had people watching it.

I agree it’s not necessarily the most exciting thing in the world and I’m not much of a fan, but to say it doesn’t have any appeal is not true.

I met with Gov Jindal's office and made a presentation on behalf of a group of investors, which included a famous LA Tech QB. Locations selected fell apart due to infrastructure and locals opposed to the noise.

Tell me how you really feel.

And there's no way another 2+ mile super speedway is built for NASCAR, the 1.5 ovals and short tracks are a lot more conducive to other racing series and events (like Tennessee/West Virginia in Bristol). So yes, any hypothetical track in Louisiana would definitely have something going on more than twice a year.

Regardless, you've already made your feelings about a hypothetical track and NASCAR very clear and I don't plan on trying to change them.
