In the books, I don’t think the Night King exists... at least yet. I find it plausible that Stannis, Euron, or even Bran could become such, but there’s no evidence that the original Other is 10,000 years old and still kicking. I also don’t think it’s a coincidence that as soon as Bloodraven went missing that the White Walkers began to reappear.
