Call it fan service or whatever, but this feels incredibly appropriate for both of those character’s arcs. The Mountain literally created the “monster” element of the Hound by what he did to him. And Jaime’s redemption arc has pointed towards him ending Ceresi for awhile now.

Then why do they get the appropriate ending and Jon doesn’t? He was fricking neutered in the most important battle ever, and he’s the most important character in the whole series.

Jon has done ok for himself.

Killed a white
Became King of the North
Is a decent leader
fricked up Ramsey.

He kids work with his dragon and did everything he could to get to the NK

I wanted It to be Jon but not every cool character can kill the NK.

Although I feel like a fight between him and the NK where Arya jumps in like the fight st the tower of joy would have been cool. It’s hard to imagine the NK is letting Jon get close to him with that sword

The idea of expectations/reputations seldom meeting reality is a common theme in the show. Ned never beat Arther Dayne in single combat, "they never sing songs about how they shite themselves...", Jamie was more of a savior than a traitor in dealing with the Mad Kind, etc. If you expected the Jon to be a chosen-one style savior in this battle, you haven't been paying attention.
