For some children, there are definitely other ways of discipline as effective as slapping or spanking them, but for some, spanking is as effective as anything. Again, to say it's lazy is a lie. It usually involves a parent having to actively and physically address the issue right then and there. A parent could say "Well, I'm not getting you that x-box game said I was gonna get you" or something like that and it could be viewed as much more passive and lazy in terms of showing that he or she doesn't want to see that behavior displayed again.
