Wood? They’ll cut down forests?! I also hear wood is pretty fire resistant.
Oil-based plastics?

I've always been fascinated with wood construction so I loosely follow what's going on. There are some impressively tall buildings recently built, under construction, or in design using engineered wood. The epoxies are fire resistant and the members are much stronger than dimensional lumber but like you said. That's a frick ton of trees and you can't completely eliminate steel because of the wood to wood connections.
The tallest is in Canada at 164 feet but London has plans for 1,000 foot tower. I'm very interested to see how the final cost compares to steel construction.
