Nothing we have would be equivalent. The cathedral was built in the 12th century. We have nothing that compares to the things that building has seen and it's history.

This.

And that's not to say that we don't have incredible architecture here, but the magnitude of the loss of the Notre Dame could be rivaled by only a few nations in the world, and we simply aren't one of them.

Imagine the loss India would feel if the Taj Mahal were destroyed. Then imagine that it was 400 years older and smack dab in the center of New Delhi. That's what losing the Notre Dame would be.
