Doesn't sound like their reasoning if you really think about it.
Because some people like physical cases and a lot of people don't like putting their credit card info on these online marketplaces. There's a reason every electronics store has download codes/shop credit for sale.
This specific case though, is due to the price of the Switch carts. In order for a cart large enough to fit the full size of the game, it costs something like $8-12/cart, which is absurd pricing.
