Storing Jon boat on dock

I’ve got a boat lift for my bass boat but thinking of getting a smaller Jon boat with a 15 hp for kids and extra guests at my camp. I have a covered area big enough for a 14-15’ boat and motor but I’m not sure how to get it on the dock each time. Lightest boat/motor combo I can figure is about 250lbs without gas etc. Two people can handle picking it up but seems like a pain. Anyone have a solution? I’ve thought about rollers and a winch, but not sure.

Make sure the motor is secure and locked if left on dock. 9.9 is easier to handle if moving after each trip .

What about some boards that work like a sea saw off the side of the dock? As the boat weight reaches the end of the boards over the water, they tip down and into the water to launch. They would stay in water until boat is recovered. Attach boards to a pipe that acts like a hinge, can pull up boat using a trailer winch attached to a post on the dock once boat is on the sea saw boards. When boat is fully wenched up onto to dock boards would be flat on dock.

I’ve seen guys take like 4” pvc and drive right on up the dock with the boat. The winch is a good idea. Unfortunately it’s gonna have to be pretty redneck to be cheap.
How far do peeps need to go? A 15 horse on a 14 Jon will go pretty fast, high 20s probably. You could throw like a 6 hp and it be adequate for just going around a small lake or bayou.
They make those jet ski pads that float you drive up on. May look into jet ski options to get some good ideas.

Thanks all. Good ideas. Dock is what I would call normal height off of water so 6”-1’. On a 200 acre lake. 9.9 might be a better option.

Look into a floating dock, easy loading and unloading...and you won’t lose dock space..

I'd get a 5hp for a typical 14' riveted jon boat. You don't need to go far on a 200 acre lake and with a 5hp you can get one with an integrated gas tank which takes up less room in a small boat. That's my recommendation.

Buy or make a floating dock, or just build ramps, leave it on there, and tie it off to the normal dock

I have a couple davits I'd let go cheap

The only reason I’d be careful about hp is because let’s be honest if it’s a guest boat and for kids you are gonna have guys/ kids horsing around with it. A 15hp on a little Jon you could legit trick out and be an idiot with. A smaller motor, you’ll get across the lake fine but not be able to really act a fool or run into a stump at a horribly bad speed.

If you have the hoist capacity and the space, rig straps under the bass boat straps. You would have to deal with the jon boat every time you wanted to use the bass boat, but it wouldn’t use up any dock space.

I leave mine tied to the dock. Installed 2(1 for backup) $25 auto bilge pumps in back of boat next to battery. Let it rain on it. works great. Just untie and fish.
