That's what a good AD would do, work with his coach. It's clear Will Wade and Joe Alleva don't and did not have a good relationship, b/c if they did, that's what would have happened.
You have that conversation, and maybe Joe tells Will and his lawyer, if you can't come meet with the Board and Fking, then it's going to be really hard to not suspend you right now until we can sit down and have that meeting. Will understands that, and takes his punishment if given it.

If I had a good relationship with my boss, and i got caught doing or saying something that may sound as if i may have done something against the rules, my boss would likely want to talk to me before meeting with HR and the higher ups, hear my story, and talk about the best action moving forward.
If i had a bad relationship with my boss, we might not have that conversation, and i just get called into the meeting with everyone and they are likely out to get me fired.
