Over the past several years, we have had many injuries on our puching staff.....Storz, Gilbert and most recently Hilliard and Hill. Is this a regular occurrence around college baseball or are we just having some bad luck?? SIAP

In his defense most of these conversations have taken place inside of threads with different titles.
To the OP. Yes we’ve had a lot of arm injuries but this same situation is playing out on every college campus and every minor league clubhouse in the country.
Most of the uptick you see this year is the coaching staff trying their best to limit injuries by resting a kid at the first sign of soreness.

Travel ball is ruining arms.

It’s all because of travel ball. These type of injuries will become the norm because of travel ball and these pitchers throwing too much before they get to college. They throw in showcases and tournaments during the summer and fall. Not much rest. We’re talking 6-8 months of baseball. Not healthy for kids under 18. This group of players in college now is the first real group of travel ball kids. It will only get worse

Was Jaden hill a travel ball kid? Tia

I wish coaches at the college and pro level would speak out more against travel ball.

I wish I could get paid millions to not figure it out too.

The retards who know nothing about baseball and who like to throw shite at the wall to see what sticks enjoy blaming all of this on Dunn. I would submit that these guys might show up at LSU as damaged goods to begin with and the damage doesn't show up until they are already here.

Who recruits those guys? Tia

Every college player was a "travel ball kid"
It may not have been a year round travel ball team, and they likely played more than one sport, but even the Football/baseball players throw and hit during the fall, some a lot.
The poster that said 6-8 months, its more like 8-10 months of baseball, and they get a couple of months off if lucky.
The problem is once they get to High School, the travel ball thing is done, and they play for their school, EXCEPT when they play Summer Showcases, Fall Showcases, and even some Spring Showcases around their school ball schedules. They do this to get noticed with Perfect Game, Prep Baseball Report, etc... all which get them noticed by college and pro scouts.
The old way of a college scout coming to your high school game are essentially gone. They show up every once in a while, but it is because they already know of a kid from showcases. (Or that kid attended their camp, which is in the offseason, forcing the kid to throw weeks in advance so his arm looks "hot")

Article in Advocate Tuesday talks about two of UCLA's top pitches are shut down with arm problems.
FWIW: Walker was a high school QB who shut down pitching during football season, i.e., resting his arm re the pitching motion. As a freshman at LSU, he pitched "year around" & injured his arm. Now we see the same thing re Hill, a high school QB who is pitching "year around".
Just wonder if this is putting too much pressure on his arm. I do agree that it looks like LSU is shutting down these guys at the first sign of problems.

No. Think outside of the box. That is the lazy answer. People used to believe the earth was flat too.
Jaden hill blows that argument up. Conventional wisdom is wrong.
Lazy coaches use that as an excuse.

What are you trying to say exactly?

Imo there is a major problem in both scouting and coaching of pitchers.
Travel ball exacerbates the situation, but these injuries are simply more prevalent than any time before in history.
Pitchers of older generations pitched way more with considerably less injuries. I dont know WHY it's happening, but it is.

Wait. You just said you were done with LSU. Why are you still here spewing your ignorance?

Woo hoo! Another thread on this.

Because the pitchers of old took off from Oct-March to drink whiskey and chase women.
Today's players start "offseason training" and "arm care" exercises the week after their season ends.
For example, how much "country boy strong" farm work do you think Nolan Ryan did in the offseason? I'd say, a shite ton.
