In the process of building my first computer for gaming. I'm down to the last step. I just plugged my graphics card into my motherboard (top slot) and mounted it to my case with the screws. Ran the VGA 8 pin from my power supply (spot labeled VGA1) with one cable to the 8 and 6 pin and plugged that into my gpu. All the other components powered by my power supply seems to be working but for some reason my gpu just doesnt seem to be getting power. Tried to update the drivers for my GPU but the nvidia experience program is not seeing a gpu. Any suggestions on what may be wrong. Gpu is not lighting up and the fans are not spinning, that's why I'm guessing no power.

You sure you got all psu cables for the mobo plugged up?

Yes I'm pretty sure I have everything plugged in that I need.

Did you make sure your cables are in the PSU good?

Yep I removed the cables on both ends and reconnected them. Does the seating into the motherboard have anything to do with power? Like would the fans spin and gpu light up if it was only plugged in and not pressed firmly into the motherboard?

Either it’s not seated to the motherboard all the way (make sure the mobo slot is right type), the power supply cables aren’t connected all the way, or you could possibly have a DOA card. If you’re using a 6 + 2 connector make sure the 2 is plugged in all the way and the right orientation.

Really hoping it's not DOA... having bad luck already. My monitor I ordered cam in busted with a mark across the screen. I have to send it back.

Reseat the card in the slot. You have to use firm pressure on both ends of the slot and the tab should visibly and audibly pop up.

Do the same with your PSU cables. If your PSU came with another set of 6+2 try those.

Yup, it is nothing software related, either cables bad, pins not oriented correctly, not seated correctly, or GPU bad

Do you have the display cable plugged into the video card or the Mobo?

I tried the video card first but didn't get anything from there, neither DP or hdmi. Then tried the motherboard with DP and that worked.

Did you install mobo software? If the slot is dead, the gpu should still power up. Did you test the psu? That leg could be dead. You sure you're getting the right power to the gpu? I dunno man. Could be a few different things.

Are you sure the mobo pci slot matches the card?

I was able to finally get it to work. I think it was a combination of 2 things...this being my first ever build, I was scared on how hard to push the card down in the slot. Takes alot of force to get it to click into the slot surprisingly. And secondly because I wasnt getting the card down enough into the slot to lock into place when i was mounting the card to the case, i think i was wiggling it out of its slot because it wasnt locked in just to get the screw and hole to line up.

TL;DR version = I'm an idiot.

I know that feel. Just spent a chunk of change on a card and don’t want to break the damn thing installing it. Glad it worked out.
