Well finally broke down and bought a gun on my bucket list which never seems to get shorter. I picked up a B&T APC9 earlier today. The gun comes with just one mag, small cleaning kit and a sling. This model had the B&T brace and came with the regular pistol rear all in a plastic suitcase style case.

I'm off this week and will be hitting some firing ranges to break it in so a range report will be later on. Also need to knock off a lot of rust because it's been a while since I was shooting.

First impressions though are highly favorable. The Swiss have a reputation for quality and precision and that is on display when handling the gun. Bubba was not employed to assemble it that's for sure. The finish is smooth and even. No burs or any imperfections seen. The trigger pull is very smooth. I mean really smooth. To give an idea it's better than any of my Glocks and VP9. The sights are adjusted by a screwdriver and fold down in front and behind top rail. Speaking of rails the side handguard rails are polymer not steel but the bottom is steel. The pistol does has 3 lug barrel and really makes me want a suppressor bad. The pistol grip does have a storage capacity. All the controls are ambidextrous. One thing of note is all the controls are exactly the same and in the same position. The mag release is exact same on both sides and so is the bolt release on both sides. The bolt handle appears to be able to be used on either side but I have not tried it. The brace is a SB tactical with B&T rear marking. When folded, it doesn't lock in but if I ever go SBR route, HK stocks will fit. FYI B&T does make some folding stocks for HK guns but that's down the road.

Takedown is pretty simple. There are 2 push pins just like on an AR15. Push on left side and pull on right and the lower receiver comes off. The rear stock comes out by just pulling it out and the recoil spring slides out. Pull the bolt handle straight out and the bolt comes out and there you have it.

Look forward to seeing what ammo it likes and doesn't like.

He definitely was dead on about the quality. Everything is just really smooth. Later on I'd like to get an Aimpoint TL1 and really need some mags.

I was just checking that out at Atlantic firearms...and the 45 version. Looking forward to your thoughts after shooting. I have a SiCo 45k in jail that would play real nice with that 45 version I’d bet.

There is also a .223 version. Man that one really looks sweet but $3 grand. At least it uses Ar15 mags. If this APC9 runs like it feels, I may save up for the .223 next tax return.

Any good places you recommend for magazines?

Is yours a pistol with a brace or did you sbr it?

I have 2 Zentihs, and 2 scorpions in different configurations so I’m good on 9mm. I would probably go the 45 route.

Anyone shot a APC45 and a gmh45? I prefer the look and cost of the gmh but I’m wondering how much smoother of a shooter is the apc supposed to be?

I like it with this brace.

Found this comparison on arfcom.

APC9 vs GHM9

There is also this gigantic 36 page thread ON B&T that I've been reading.

B&T thread

Looks like you really not going wrong with either but some personal preferences make the difference.

I had read the first thread already. I have looked at a cpl pages of the big one so far. I see it said there are better stock options for the apc but I like that tailhook on the ghm. And the extra LOP with it is mitigated being able to adjust that stock.

I see the apc labeled as a gen 2 and tak of being able to feed hollow points now and the ghm is supposed to get a update of that or it has already...so you know for sure? I haven’t found that tidbit yet.

IIRC the fix on the GHM was a new bullet guide that was quickly fixed by B&T. I'll be going to the range hopefully tomorrow at Precision Firearms and will try to go the range couple times, since it looks like you're on the fence about buying one, you're more than welcome to come test shoot my APC9. I'm off for a week so I'm trying to get back into shooting again. Just let me know here.

I found this about gen 1 and gen 2 differences on the GHM9.

quote:

Gen 1 vs Gen 2: B&T says the way to tell is that the handguard is a separate part from the receiver on Gen 2, however I see a lot of posts (including the one I bought from) advertising Gen 2 with a one piece receiver/handguard.

Is it the same thing with the 45s? I been looking for a 45 pcc suppressor host. I have the zeniths and scorpions so I have a bunch of 9mm stuff. I just can’t get into the glock mag angled back look. Petty I know but is what it is lol. So I dig these...reminds me of my cmr-30

I appreciate the offer but that’s a bit of a drive and I sadly have work lol.

Sounds like 45 is what ya need. I haven't invested into suppressors only SBRs but I think that will change shortly. B&T makes suppressors for them. I'll need to find some info on whether go that route or another one.

That is a great question. They are expensive!! All I can say is call a shop or two and search online for a price you're willing to accept. Insert "Buy once cry once." You paid $erious cash on a nice lifetime weapon a couple mags will complement it and you will never look back

This is who I used. Purchased several different packages from them.

Two thumbs up on those 9's

I purchased the .45 w/a SB brace it's slick. I wanted it "now" so I went pistol. Going SBR w/a pistol grip is certainly the way to go no question but the brace without the grip works effective enough. I have a red dot on it and it thumps.

fwiw: I haven't looked very hard at the AR-45 pistols but I willing to bet they function at a fraction of the cost.

I have a couple nice firearms but nothing makes me grin like my PMR-30. I've wanted a CMR-30 and for whatever reason just haven't picked one up. How do you like it?

Is the APC9 the one that you can SBR and use the factory folding stock if you want?

Not sure what you mean. The brace I have came with the firearm but some HK stocks fit. The APC does have more stock options but than GHM9.
