I only ask because I'm ignorant but what about having a partner and children makes you fat? Are you saying that once you have these things you get to give up on your body?

Well my grandmother used to say about someone that put on weight “well he looks married.”

In lost weight after getting married and having kids but I can see how it happens. You basically have no free time when you have little kids which means typically less time to work out and worse diet habits.

You come in from work dog tired then have to deal with whatever shite is going on at home. Neither you or spouse has time or energy to make a healthy meal so it's fast food. And finding time to exercise? When?
That's the headwind you're facing. You can overcome it, and a lot of people do. But it takes a commitment. And it's easy to let things slide until you step on the scale one morning and find you've gained 20 pounds.
