If you think widening the fairways and removing rough and shortening it back to 6900 yds levels the playing field, I don’t know what to tell you. Sure, more guys will be able to get to -10... but they’ll still lose by -14. It gives the advantage to a select few. Whereas now shorter (meaning 290 instead of 340) and in the fairway is better than being in the trees and gives those guys a chance: Spieth, ZJ, Serg, Willett don’t win or even get close with the old layout. Because the longer guys would have almost zero trouble. Now, when they stay out of trouble, they are damn hard to beat. But that’s why they win any tournament. Long and accurate will trump just about anything.
