You people are idiots and dealing with your stages of grief. He had to be suspended, there was no other option. Its 100% on Wade for his own stupidity and no one else.
Do you want a lack of institutional control charge from the NCAA on your athletic department? Because that would likely be on the way if they continued letting that guy coach.
This is as much about protecting football and the university, as it is doing what needs to be done for the basketball program.
Step back in to reality and get a grip!

You’re right about everything except one thing. It wasn’t stupidity on Wade’s part—it was more bad luck than stupidity.

Thanks butthurt tenner fan we'll take that into consideration

if Wade is guilty/liable, we're already facing that

So lsu would get the toughest penalty in sports history for saying they are investigating internally while letting their coach do his thing for 2-3 more weeks? Come on man

NCAA this summer: So when these allegations were made public and gained national attention on March x, you met with Wade and concluded he was fit to continue coaching?
LSU: uhhhhh well... he actually wouldn't even meet with us to discuss anything related to it, but shucks he was doing so well we just went with it.
NCAA this summer: lack of institutional control, multi-year post season ban, loss of scholarships, vacated wins, show cause for Wade and ohh I think we'll be sending some NCAA reps down to campus to investigate the rest of your athletic programs.

uh, it was a media report with evidence not available to make a decision
if we're fricked, what does suspending Wade do for LSU? nothing

We started our investigation after the reports, (much like the ncaa) this investigation took at least 1-2 months. Not days. No concrete evidence was made available in the report. It would have been irresponsible for lsu to act on rumor

It stops potential blow-back on the rest of the athletic department and university. If you think it doesn't, then you are a fool. Thumbing your nose at the national media and NCAA when your coach is caught red-handed like Wade has.. will not work out.
You can bring up UNC, but that was a total different situation, where they had a leg to stand on in court. It is also their premiere program, so they would do whatever it takes to protect it.
LSU football & baseball are priority #1 for LSU AD, they are going to do whatever it takes to mitigate risk towards those programs.
You people need to come back to reality.

no it doesn't
if the NCAA seriously investigates all of this FBI stuff, then there is no turning back and the entire landscape of college athletics is under the microscope. in that case LSU is fricked, along with a bunch of other schools
if the NCAA realizes they'll basically have to hit the reset button and doesn't investigate, then LSU/Wade will be fine
quote:
. Thumbing your nose at the national media and NCAA
the NCAA is not and cannot investigate right now. nobody is "thumbing their nose" at the NCAA
the media has no power over any investigation

WHY DON'T SOMEONE ASK SMART WHAT WENT DOWN. DOES SMART DRIVE A NEW CAR? Does he have more money to spend than others? Where does his mom live? Where she work? Why isn't this being looked at. If he got paid a young guy gonna flaunt it somewhere

Any actions of support for Wade at this point would be LSU thumbing their nose at the NCAA and national media. He is done, he was caught being an idiot. Show cause is coming, simple as that. The NCAA is coming for him after the FBI finishes their deal. Wade knows, LSU knows it, everyone knows it.
You also don't want to give the national media the finger either, because they will send down investigative journalists that will be hell-bent on finding something on the football program. They'll likely find it too.

holy shite
so any time a bad media report (Without evidence) surfaces about a coach, your position is the school has to suspend the coach or else the university is "supporting" a person who violated NCAA rules, and is therefore "thumbing their nose" at the NCAA? seriously?
think about how utterly absurd what you're saying is
quote:
and national media.
they have no power to sanction LSU
quote:
He is done
if he is, then he is, but a proper investigation is required
quote:
he was caught
this is a lie
eventually he may be "caught", but as of now we only have unsupported media allegations. that isn't evidence
quote:
Show cause is coming
and it hasn't come yet, so there is no rational or logical penalty. when it comes, then you will have an argument
quote:
The NCAA is coming for him after the FBI finishes their deal. Wade knows, LSU knows it, everyone knows it.
then when that comes, and proper evidence is submitted, then deal with Wade
quote:
You also don't want to give the national media the finger either, because they will send down investigative journalists that will be hell-bent on finding something on the football program.
The media has such a hard on for LSU this has been happening for decades. They even create fake stories to frick with us
Posted on 3/9/19 at 8:07 am to SlowFlowPro
Look man, if you want to have your head in the sand, that is fine.
Vol basketball has been through this twice in the last decade. Bruce Pearl & Donnie Tyndall.
Its not the end of the world and no coach is bigger than the program, especially when they do things as idiotic as Wade has done. If an AD starts the 'us against the world' in support of one of these idiots, then the problems come.

so not having irrational, unrealistic expectations and a respect for due process means that i "have my head in the sand"?

that is another universe from not suspending Wade for only a media report. this is your primary straw man

This isn't a Brett Mcmurphy hit-piece, these are quotes from an FBI wire tap.

that has only been reported, not released. the full context/conversation also hasn't been revealed
this is a calculated and edited leak by a defense attorney to a media member solely to hurt a coach (AFTER they claimed they want to tear down the entire system). you really think that is enough?
if this is the standard, then we can have somebody from the advocate report some illegal behavior of Saban and expect Bama to suspend him, right? that's the standard that you're promoting

ad hom
i'm not saying Wade is innocent
i'm not saying LSU won't be punished
i'm saying suspending him for just this media report is a spineless, dishonorable move and won't move the needle if the NCAA hammers us
Posted on 3/9/19 at 8:46 am to SlowFlowPro
To me it seems like the person doing the leaking is pissed at wade for not doing business with him.
None of the people that actually consummated deals with him have been leaked.

Tennessee was stupid to hire Tyndall in the first place. They never had to put themselves in a position to have to hire another coach again in a short period of time.
