also thru hull or transom mount transducer? all the packages i see have a transom mount.

Just depends. Transom mount will be cheaper and easier to install, but won't perform as well or look as clean IMO.
Thru hull is the best way to do it, but is more expensive.

For lowrance I recommend the Airmar through hull for offshore. Night and day difference than a standard 2d fiver from lowrance
