Sidenote: what if Brees wanted to join Comus?
The chances are better that Roger Goodell would agree to kiss his arse on live TV on the Fleur-de-lis at midfield before the Saints home opener.

Rex is King, but he Maids are from The School of Design
There is no such thing as Comus king......he is merely Comus, he God of festivity, revels and nocturnal dalliances.

And that is the crux of the problem right there. The most outstanding New Orleanian of the last 30 years is an outsider and will always be an outsider. Even if you fixed crime and education, why would a Bezos or Musk, or Hell, any Fortune 500 company want to locate there? They can go to any other city and be big swinging dicks. In New Orleans they'd be considered interlopers for the next four generations.
Atlanta and Houston dont have time for that jibberjabber.

This thread reminds me. Who’s ready for the Hermès lunch this year?

The only problem here is that grown adults take this dress up/party shite seriously.

Nothing gets me off like Errol Laborde reading the names of the white elite at the Meeting of the Courts.
I’ve watched it on TV a few times and it is the most painful thing I thing I’ve ever watched.
I know a few people that attend these old NOLA Mardi Gras functions and it’s not because they want to, it’s becuase they have to and they absolutely hate it.

Very good points made in this post. Kudos to you for recognizing the problem.
I would say the main problem with the rest of Louisiana is they're too happy with their lifestyle/culture in general here to care enough to improve upon anything. That bleeds over into NOLA as well. Louisiana can't get out of its own way.

In the real high society, yes and no. The Mannings belong to all (most) of the premier organizations uptown. I know Archie has ridden in Rex and was a regular in Bacchus as was Steve Stonebreaker. Pat Taylor was part of it as well.
Trust me, if you have the money and you live uptown, you will get invited sooner or later.....plus you don't know what organizations Brees is a member of.....as King of Bacchus, he automatically becomes a member for life.

Brees doesnt want to be a member of any of those secret mystic societies
He’s better than that.

Used to go to it regularly. It was more fun than the actual parade....not as douchey as you may think.....by the time the parade rolls most of the membership is so blitzed after drinking since 10:30 in the morning that they are barely able to ride

I feel like the Saints are always involved with Bacchus in some way or another.

You don't know that.....you would be surprised at who belongs to these organizations.....actually the harder ones are the all black organizations like the Illinois Club you better be bona fide "Creole" with family with roots in the 7th ward near the race track

All you Wops, Micks and Krauts have no respect. You would never have your "Super Krewes" like Bacchus, Endymyon, and Muses without the old line Krewes. All pale and debauched mere copies of nobility.

True as are a lot of celebrities. Jim Belushi regularly rides in Bacchus and Dom Deluise used to ride periodically, hell I remember one year he was so faced that it took 5 people to get him off the float. I used to go to the Rendezvous and Henry Winkler was a regular and Heston used to go at least until the mid 90's

I don’t know, a guy as loved and rich as Brees could probably get into Comus or the Boston Club or Pickwick club. He’d probably be the richest member.
