quote:He taught to respect the government because the government is put into place by God to punish evil. Not exactly the same thing as destroying all other institutions in favor of the government, like leftist “progressives” preach these days.
And about respecting the state (give unto Caesar...).
quote:Not really because, again, His teachings were not political but moral and theological. Republicans and Democrats alike are supposed to be living their lives in accordance with Jesus’ teachings. The question is whether or not it is the role of the government to take the place of the individual, the family, or the Church in these matters, and that’s where conservatives and progressives differ.
But his preachings certainly fit more into the progressive mold than the Republican mold, in 2019. Which is hilarious, considering.
Ironically, progressives generally want to destroy religion and especaillly the Bible and live according to moral relativism and humanism. Whether there is any overlap in regards to their moral code and what Jesus taught is irrelevant since they have no objective basis for their morality and they actually rob God of the glory He deserves, which is ultimately why we are to do everything we do as Christians: we are to do all things for the glory of God.
