PM: “we recruited him to hit home runs”

Anyone remember LSU in the CWS several years ago? 9th inning. No one out. 2 runners on base. Ralph Rhymes at plate. PM let’s him swing away & he grounds into DP. A bunt & a base hit ties game. Evidently PM hates to bunt but every player better learn how. From a percentage standpoint which play has greater chance of working? HR or bunt? Yeah the kid hit a HR yesterday. May not happen next time with, let’s say, a critical SEC game on the line.

It's truly amazing the different ways yall come with things to bitch about

All depends on the situation and who’s at the plate

So you think beloso, a kid who has probably attenpted to bunt less than a handful of times in his life, should have attempted to lay that one down yesterday?

I think every player on that team needs to be able to bunt if needed. If you are playing percentages, what play has greater chance of working? It’s a bunt. The HR is exciting. Yesterday it worked. But you aren’t getting to hit a HR every time.

HR won the game for LSU. A bunt and you are relying on your 8 and 9 hitters to go .500 just to tie the game.
I do believe Reid would have batted for one of those but seems to me the percentage play was to let the guy swing away.

A bunt of course has a greater chance of working. But those arent the only options, nor does a bunt guarantee a win. You still need a basehit after that with 2 outs to play with. Beloso also has a chance of walking, getting hit, or clubbing a single or double, which likely tues the game and puts lsu in a great position to win

The HR is not a “play”
You dont give a signal to hit a HR.
We have already called and executed at least one bunt play in two games that I recall.
Please stop with the ignorance

Had he bunted that meatball first pitch, your post would have complained about giving up an out so quickly after back to back walks.

Good point.

The difference between College World Series and yesterday is that we were behind by one run in Omaha and two runs yesterday. A bunt can get one run in. But a hit can get two runs in and tie the game. A home run can win the game. I think the swinging away option in this situation presented the best chance for success.

Never bunt.
Especially never fricking bunt with the winning run at the plate.

Another retarded post. No way are you telling Beloso to bunt in this situation. He’s a power hitter so you’re hoping for him to square one up and put it in the gap. Same with Duplantis in the 8th. He’s one of the best hitters on the team and probably the most reliable at getting a base hit to keep things rolling.
Sometimes things just don’t workout the way you expect. It was an outstanding play by the 2B and SS to turn that double play because Antoine doesn’t usually get doubled up. Point is, you don’t take the bat out of your best hitters hands. You recruited them to come to LSU to be clutch and to get base hits or doubles, not to bunt

I don’t know why Muhnairee doesn’t call the Homer play more often. It seems to work well.

Sac bunting almost always gets you a out. You only get 3, and we are going to sit here and just give them 1? If you want percentages then just steal 2nd. Stealing a base has a 75-80% success rate.
