Do We Think Zack Hess Will Get It Together?

Was at the game tonight and he just didn’t look that sharp. Not saying he won’t improve but if that is how he pitches the entire season then I just don’t think that is good enough. Would Mainieri have the balls to swipe the starting role if Walker can pitch as well as he did tonight?

Consistency has always been his problem. I don’t see him becoming that consistent starter but closer is a different story.

Do people even know he recently pulled his groin, and has missed a bit of time?
Opening night nerves.
Rust from injury.
He will be just fine.

Walker will be the Friday night guy by the time SEC rolls around

Give him another start and if it is another rough outing, send him to the bullpen. I wouldn’t waste time with all the pitching depth we supposedly have this year.

Well know in a few weeks if he’s going to stay our Friday guy. Wouldn’t surprise me to see him move to Sunday. We’ll see.

Yea I absolutely think you give him at least 4 starts. I think that if he hasn’t improved then Paul has a decision to make

Thanks for enlightening us with your invaluable knowledge. What would we do without you?

Hope you are right. Hess is my favorite pitcher and I absolutely want to see him succeed. That’s why I didn’t say he needed to be pulled, I just asked if people think he will get below that kind of 5 ERA that he sat at last season

Some guys just wired to be relievers

Move him back to closer and improve the bullpen if he doesn’t pull it together soon. This team is a completely different situation than last year. We don’t need Hess to be a starter, Walker / Marceaux / Hill / Hilliard is a more than capable group if the freshmen deliver. Doesn’t help the team to have Hess pitch inconsistently on Friday’s with the talent on the roster.

After Hess's year as a closer, Paul mentioned that he had promised Hess a chance to be a starter at LSU when he recruited him. That was apparently the selling point that got him to LSU.
Clearly Hess wants to be a starter and Paul feels obligated to give him the opportunity. He wasn't good in that role last year. Not good tonight. If he continues to be ineffective as a starter, they both have choices to make.

I doubt it. As we all know, he struggled with his command all last season as a starter. He only had a handful of good outings. He had the same problem tonight. I'd move him back to the bullpen.

No. He is two years into this. Send him back to pen. He is simply not an Ace/Fri night type of guy.

Completely agree, certainly not jumping to conclusions after 1 outing but he needs to have a good one or two quick

7 hours ago everyone was assuming walker lost his job to hill. Now hess is out and walker is the friday ace. Maybe just maybe a little overreaction? Hess will be fine

No. Usually after one bad performance a pitcher’s career is over.
