Let's be crystal clear here: the blame for this sordid episode rests decidedly with F. King Alexander, who does not have the first clue about how to hire a decent administrative team at LSU. Incompetent administrator after incompetent administrator has been hired at LSU, and as the "leader" at LSU the buck stops with Alexander. The poor track record of administrative hiring provides strong evidence that there is a systematic problem at the very top at LSU.
Case in point: Mari Fuentes-Martin came from a campus with no Greek system, and it was pointed out numerous times during the search process that hiring someone who had no experience with a Greek system to run student affairs at a university with a large Greek system was a serious mistake. Everyone with an ounce of brains knew that this was a potential disaster in the making, and we have seen major problems in the Greek system under Alexander's watch.
This follows a general pattern of administrative incompetence in the hiring of LSU administrators. Had LSU hired a President who had even a smidgen of a clue about how to run a major research university with a large Greek system and high-powered sports programs, we would not be facing case after case of administrative incompetence. That LSU continues to face these problems speaks volumes about the lack of quality leadership at the top. LSU needs a change in leadership if it is going to avoid these (and other) problems in the future.
