‘The Simpsons’ Renewed For Seasons 31 & 32 By Fox
quote:
The renewal also erases any doubts that Fox is committed to keeping its signature animated series after their producer, 20th Century Fox TV, moves to Disney following the completion of the $71.3 billion acquisition. Of the other two veteran Fox animated shows, Family Guy is locked for the next two seasons, while Bob’s Burgers is set for the next year.

In before “The Simpsons hasn’t been funny since (insert year you turned 15).”

They'll never stop The Simpsons,
Have no fears, we've got stories for years,
Like - Marge becomes a robot,
Maybe Moe gets a cell-phone,
Has Bart ever owned a bear,
Or, how 'bout a crazy wedding?
and something happens a do-do-do-do-doooo,

"Who knows what adventures they'll have between now and the time the show becomes unprofitable?!"

I do
Looks like they'll hit 700 episodes now which is just an insane number

The Simpsons hasn’t been funny since 1998.

The overwhelming general consensus is that the Simpsons' cromulent years ended anywhere as early as season 8-9'ish or as late as 13-14'ish. You seem to be implying that there's this wider range of general opinion than that.
Is there a single person on the planet who actually thinks that seasons 3-6 are comparable in quality to 13-16 or 23-26?
I'm sure that guy exists somewhere and God Bless him he's entitled to his opinion of course.

I’m implying that by the time kids near their mid-teens the cynicism sets in and the new episodes don’t hold up to the “old” episodes of their youth.

Let us all face the cold, hard, facts here. The Simpsons will be on the air long after everyone posting in this thread is pushing up daisies.

I still dvr every episode and am certain I saw at least 90%.
Though I just watched the second and third seasons and forgot how great a show it was then.
Especially great that I get the adult jokes too.
"Tell the boss I'm taking my wife to the car and won't be back for ten minutes "

Nostalgia is certainly a real thing however its existence is now just as often used as a knee jerk dismal of criticism of current era things.
The Simpsons is not a very good poster child for the phenomenon you're describing IMO.

The best way I've heard it described is that the Simpsons in its hey day used to be an animated show and and gradually became a cartoon. The characters all became caricatures.
You may have heard the term 'Flanderization' before, named in honor of ole Ned. It's essentially a TV phenomenon when small quirky aspects of a character slowly take over and eventually they become a ridiculous caricature of themselves.

Nostalgia my arse. I loved that show as an adult and it just started to get worse and worse over time. Starts heading south about season 7, which is still a great run for a show.

No issues with the Simpsons, just wanted to say I have not watched it since 1993
Well I probably stopped on a rerun here or there over 30 years.
Amazing run.

Guess they were right. Have no fears.
And for the record, the good Simpsons ended with the Simpsons Movie. What a wonderful opportunity to create an epic story colored by a tapestry of characters unlike any other fictional pantheon.
And they made it about global warming and other aging hippie Al Gore bullshite. And they really did become more SJW after that. The show is still funny, but it simply lost its magic.

Exactly. The Simpsons put up ~10 seasons of some of the best TV ever made, that's an incredible accomplishment.
However great tv shows rarely just ride off into the sunset gracefully when they probably should.

I still try to catch new episodes, but they all seem novelty driven with more and more chaff than wheat in the laughs dept. But good for them I guess, it’ll just be a drag if they keep spinning out and have to be cancelled.
A popular “point of diminishing returns” moment among fans is The Principal and the Pauper episode. I stayed with them past that, and think the bottom fell out the first time a cell phone appeared.

Simpsons Movie sequel, Bob’s Burgers, and Family Guy movies are all in development/pre-production as well.
