If they are out in true -20 (without the aid of some sort of heat) they will likely be in serious trouble. The coldest night I ever spent out was -43 F on Denali. I had a -40 degree bag (which cost about a grand at the time) and still froze my arse off that night. The sole comfort was a Nalgene bottle filled with my warm pee.
