Explain to Me the Idea of Compromise Here

There are two options here:
Wall
No Wall
There is no compromise. Why is anyone pretending like reopening the government is compromise? Why is anyone pretending DACA protections with a narrowed scope is compromise? The side that wants no wall isnt compromising if they vote to fund a wall. They are caving. One side has to cave when you're at an impasse.

I mean, Trump making himself look like a fool is pretty funny.
Still, everyone talks about compromise but they cant explain it. Just repeat talking points.

There was plenty of room to compromise on this issue - for both sides.
Everyone involved at one point or another has voted for a wall. The sticking point today was the optics of politics.
The optics today may not be the optics of Feb 15. The Left said open and we'll talk. Not showing up to table next week is not a good optic. Not opening the House for the SOTU is not a good optic.
There was plenty of room to compromise before today - Trump offered those points of compromise in his last speech. Tomorrow, there may be less room to compromise.

Correct. Trump is putting everyone on record. Dems first voted to fund the wall in the past, yet now they refuse to budge. Trump offers them things they want; they refuse to budge. Dems say no negotiations unless reopen government; Trump knows this is a ruse, but he does so anyway to force them to either negotiate or be further on the record of not standing by their word.
Could Trump be caving? Certainly it's possible; however, his history says this is unlikely. He is doing what he does best: negotiating. He is letting them have small victories, because it will make them look foolish in the end.
We will get the wall one way or the other. Trump wants it to be done the ideal way through congress. Once every single option has been exhausted through congress, he will then declare national emergency and fund it that way.
Everyone will be on record at that point.
I hope this makes sense to you. I kept it as plainly spoken and simplified as possible. Like Trump, I know my audience.

I have a question for you, do you support a wall?
And do you have any issue with the current illegal immigration situation?
And please don’t tell me to look at your previous post, I don’t have time for that.
Also, not trying to start shite.. just asking questions.

One side has always wanted a wall. The other side used to want a wall, but now doesn't because Orange Man bad and muh illegals. Only one side is being intellectually honest.

Let me write it in crayon for you:
Trump: I want a wall.
Pelosi: I don't want a wall.
Trump: If I give you X on your agenda, will you compromise on the wall?
Pelosi: No. frick you. *runs to media*

There is plenty of room to compromise. I’m not on Team Orange Man Bad or Team Orange Man Great. The shutdown looked bad on all fronts and is tantamount to children throwing a fit.
All that being said, Trump looks bad for not pushing harder on ACA and a wall when he had a better allocations of votes in the house and senate. And shutting the government down for this long with no end game is not a good look either.
I will say this, Trump reopening the government to negotiate, which was the demand of the house does buy him some goodwill in my view. If the house doesn’t give anything, they will look like the spoiled children.
A good compromise would be either 2.5M on wall/barrier/fencing with additional funding for border security that the house has pushed or 1.5M for the wall/barrier/fencing with immigration reform.
Still plenty of room for both sides to come away with their pride and talking points.

But they dont want a wall. So it isnt compromising.

And none of that matters.
Pelosi will not negotiate. On anything. Ever. I mean FFS the democrats straight up said when Trump was elected they would oppose anything and everything Trump tries, regardless of what it is.

1.5M for the wall/barrier/fencing with immigration reform.
I'd encourage reform. But a big expensive wall seems unnecessary.

Do you understand what compromise means?
Posted on 1/25/19 at 4:25 pm to Centinel
Yes. And when you want something not to happen, agreeing to allow it to happen isn't compromise. Its giving in.
Posted on 1/25/19 at 4:26 pm to Centinel
Theres no compromise on a binary yes or no
Posted on 1/25/19 at 4:26 pm to AggieDub14
He gave them three weeks. Then deal with the plan. That is compromise.

Giving in on something you don't want to get something you do want is the definition of compromise
Posted on 1/25/19 at 4:28 pm to themunch
No it isnt. It's still a yes or a no. Yes wall. No wall. There is no compromise there.
